hey if you cannot bribe cops and the muni this country would come to a haalt. at least in costa rica peons like us can afford a bribe. in europe and the states you need millions.

My first time in Cr 22 years ago I had just left the airport and was waived off the road by a traffic cop. I had no idea why. I didn’t speak much Spanish but it wasn’t hard to understand why he kept putting his hand out. I slapped a 20 in his hand & kept rolling. Since that year I haven’t returned but always wanted to, and maybe even retire there.its disapointing to see so little has changed.

Does every crooked public official here get paid not to work after they are caught doing something illegal. What’s the point. He turns in his bike, takes a 3 month paid vacation, and all is forgotten. What a deal!

Wonder who tipped him off! The underlying problem here is CORRUPTION. I suspect the only “punishment” the traffic cop will receive is the 3-month paid suspension (a joke and mockery of the law). If he is fired, there are not enough ‘honest’ applicants to replace these guys. Ya know, the Lady wants a law to remove “veils” around S.A.’s to prevent “mock[ing] the law”. Well, how is the lack of punishment of administrative corruption NOT “MOCK[ING] THE LAW”? Silly me! another ‘do as I say, not as I do’ and that’s supposed to make everything just fine.

Courts will rule later video taping was illegal. Therefore after his 3 month vacation with PAY and his Christmas bonus he will be back. This ticket price is way way out of line at the most 50,000 colones would be fair. Now he loosing money on future bribes.
