Personally, I find improperly parked cars to be the second most egregious common offense here. (The first is motorists believing they have the right to turn into pedestrians, which prevents pedestrians from being able to cross the street even at an intersection with a green light.) It is because the improperly parked cars often selfishly block both the streets and the sidewalks. Therefore, I oppose the shift from a ticket to towing and impounding improperly parked cars. By the time the tow truck arrives, the cars will be long gone.

Actually, many of the fines in CR are much higher in $ then they are in the US.

On the other side, I am personally upping my Citation Avoidance payments to our excellent CR police (when I get pulled over) to the greater of $25 or 10% of the max fine. So far so good, since the increased traffic fine schedule was implemented I have found the police to be very understanding when they are presented with my new payment matrix. I would prefer a more reasonable system to be implemented by the CR government, but I think it is more likely that finding a way to get along within the new CR system will be more productive.

Now, if I can just figure a way to deal with those traffic camera tickets. Well, I am an optimist, I am sure by the time I get a ticket from the traffic cams, people much more inventive then I will have worked out a reasonable and affordable plan to deal with them.
