Michael, they will be *criminally* charged for a crime equivalent to extortion. however that does necessarily equate with MOPT being able to terminate them (and if they are terminated they aren’t entitled to severance ) — the criminal issue is separate from the employment one.

I don’t get it, they were arrested but not charged? I think this article is actually missing some detail here. If the OIJ arrested then, they charged them and only a judge can decide the penalty. Like I say pretty sure this article is missing half the story.

“soliciting of bribes” is a polite way of saying that the Transitos are robbing people. Not enough justification for firing them- you have to be kidding.

They may be talking a bribe, but have you seen a list of the fines the Government is asking of its drivers, I’ll take the bribe until they work it all out.

If you are worried about “loss of confidence,” look no further than “LOSS OF TOURISM.” These officers are ripping off the public with no worry of recourse, and the government allows it with its’ lack of laws that have a bite for this type of behavior. If I did this, I would be jailed, fined, and fired.

Taking a “bribe” is ambiguous and could never be legally defined. Where as a “loss of confidence” is a legal expression that the CR courts I´m sure could define in several years.
