I have been ridden the rails in countries around the globe Marcelo. Kind of my thing. The government should not reopen a rail line unless they put money in to the system. There are companies from Europe that are trying to get in on building the trooly system in San Jose right now. There are companies from around the world that will build the rail system in Costa Rica if they get a concession on the fares. It is not just money from the government that builds the rails in a 3rd world country. It is that country and business from around the world working together to get it done. It is time for the people of Costa Rica do demand that the government look out for their safety on projects such as this. Instead of looking for a public relations push out of it. The rail system in Costa Rica could be very effective and used by millions of riders every year if the country were to get help in setting it up. There is a solution to the problem. It is not always poor country poor rail service.

I agree with you on this Marcelo. Trains are a very underused method of transportion. The sad part is that the highway system in the US was so successful that it killed train inovation in the US. It will be a fight to get the people of the US to ever accept trains as a method of transportation.

Edgar Sanchez Union Pacific has money – and moves freight. INCOFER do what they can, and of course that new rails are needed but… the goverment put the money for that? Or they want to have a line reopened with very few money? US or China companies never will put money if there is not enough returns to pay for the investment or enough fast as they want. You cannot compare US with other countries and the RR in third world are not like the US ones but still work.
