Types of people so far.
Now that my tour service is 9 months old I would like to discuss some interesting facts about my guests.
There have been many single men and NO single women. Most of the men have had their assets reduced by the divorce process. Maybe that explains why there have been NO women guests. They have all the money and have not been motivated to find a less expensive place to live. Of course when men start searching the internet about Costa Rica, they find many sites about the legality of prostitution and maybe that adds to the many other reasons this is such a fantastic place to live.
Another overwhelming communality is; all guests are quite well traveled and most have lived in several parts of the world during their work lives. My last guest is a retired Air Force Officer from California who lived in Italy, Germany, Greece, and all over the US while he was in the Service. He is now living in Okinawa and travels as part of his job with the University of Oklahoma all over from Hawaii, Japan, Korea, and elsewhere.
He had not been to Costa Rica before but, had researched in person and on the web for the last year where he wanted to retire. After 6 days with me, he has committed to moving here as fast as he can get his financial affairs in order. We went all over my regular tour and then down to Ojochal.
He has lived near the Ocean most of his life and claims this area is as cool as or cooler than anywhere he has lived. Not only is it cool, it is one of the most beautiful areas of Costa Rica, it is still quaint and unspoiled by mass tourists, high prices, and low life's. It has more than five exceptional Restaurants including 3 great pizza places, a Gourmet French place, and others all owned and operated by
Expats.
If you would like to check out the Ojochal area, I highly recommend www.hotel-posada.com . Karen and Mike are great hosts and know the area inside and out.
I plan to include this area in future tours even though it is not within one hour of San Jose, it is so special, the distance is a minor inconvenience.

The other main communality is that most come from the most "desirable" states like Florida, California, Texas, Arizona, and Georgia. I can only guess that people from the North and Central states are not experienced in changing their homes and therefore fear the unknown. Of course, most of these people think Costa Rica is an Island somewhere in the Caribbean and have no concept of the UNIQUE CULTURE that has evolved here.
I am glad there is no huge exodus so we can keep the peace and tranquility to the special few who find this incredible place. We still have two FREE roundtrip air tickets to the States and have no desire to use them.
WHAT A COUNTRY!!!
