Sunday 23 February 2003

This week I had two couples from Texas who wanted to spend some time on the beach and go off-shore fishing.

I found a GREAT B&B on the beach at Playa Potrero, Flamingo. It is only 2 years old, sits 150 feet from the beach, built like a Motel, by a VERY NEAT couple from Seatle. Each room is large with it΄s own bath and a large porch facing the Ocean.  They designed and built this place themselves and paid close attention to detail. They serve a great breakfast in the Rancho. They made me and my guests feel like we were much loved relatives and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a neat, inexpensive place on the beach. You can reach them at dane_vickie@racsa.co.cr or 506 654-5005.

We went offshore on the Pes Bela owned by another neat guy from Colarado. I have been a Guide for Offshore fishing in a past life in Texas, fished from New Zealand, Australia to Mexico, and US; I will put this crew up against any I have seen. We were after Dorado and Sail fish. The Capitan and two hands worked like a well tuned program to get us comfortably to where the fish were and they proceded to get them up, put the bait in their mouth, and assist in landing them.

We hooked up 8 thirty to forty pound Dorado and boated 6 of them. The crew had them fileyed and on ice right after they had put all of the teasers and baits back in the water. We only got one Sail fish up, hooked, fought up to the boat, photographed, tagged and released. They served fresh Pineapple, Watermellon, and Fried Chicken for snacks and lunch. I would highly recommend this boat and crew to anyone wanting a very competent, friendly, English speaking crew. You can contact the owner Darrel at 506 6544391.

After fishing and lying on the beach, we went to Lake Arenal. I have found another great bargain place with a nice garden looking down the entire length of Lake Arenal at the Vocano. It is the Mystika Lodge. It is owned by an Italian family and they serve very good Pizza and bread cooked in their wood fired oven. This is a totally tranquile place to kick back and enjoy the sights and sounds of Costa Rica.

I feel this article relates to living here because this is one more of the many benefits we enjoy. PURA VIDA
