Pride and Hot Tub

I returned to Texas to pick up the pumps, controls, jets, heater, electrical panel and other stuff for the construction of the 8-foot diameter hot tub I am building in my new “Mirador”.

I am here for only three days, but was very lucky to have the opportunity to see one of my son’s receive the award from Allstate, Inc. as the NUMBER 1 Financial Planner in Texas for 2002.

The event was held at the Four Seasons in Las Colinas. Everything was FIRST CLASS, the location, the food, the drinks, and the entertainment. I was filled with pride with all of the many compliments his associates gave him.

I felt FANTASTIC to see him enjoy the great feeling of achieving a lofty goal. Success feeds on itself and I know he will continue to set and achieve higher goals. In the first 6 weeks of 2003, he has booked ½ of his total for all of last year.

I also got to see his oldest daughter practicing with her competitive Cheerleading Squad. They won a National title last week for their age group.

This column is about living in Costa Rica. Well that is the most serious drawback; not always being here when our children and grandchildren go through their lives’ significant events.

The reasons I returned to pick these items up are: They are not available here in the configuration I want, so I must buy them in the US and the freight and duty costs would have been $800-$1,200. I used some frequent flyer miles and $300 to make the trip. I had all of the parts packed in my checked luggage and the duty was very low.

I will be buying the shell for the Hot Tub in San Jose. It is fiberglass, made in CR, 8 feet in diameter and 3 feet deep. The cost is $700 plus I will have to hire a small truck for about $50 to haul it to our house.

The separate electrical service is already installed. It took about 3 weeks and cost $90 to get set up.

I will be posting photos to my photo site as the construction progresses
