"Confusing
Nouns"
In Spanish there are nouns which have masculine
and feminine forms with different meanings.
Misuse of these nouns is one of the most
common errors committed by beginning,
intermediate and in some cases advanced Spanish
students. It is important to use the
correct gender with these words or you will be
misunderstood.
el banco - bank
la banca - bench or stool
el gorro - cap without a visor
la gorra - cap with a visor
el cometa - comet
la cometa - kite
el corte - cut
la corte - court
el coma - coma
la coma - comma
el cura - priest
la cura - cure
el papa - pope
la papa - potato
la bolsa - bag
el bolso - purse
el orden - order (sequence)
la orden - command or order of food
el capital - capital (money)
la capital - capital (city)
el policía - policeman
la policía - police force
el guía - guide (person)
la guía - guide (travel guide, handbook)
la cólera - anger
el cólera - disease
