Government redefines directive

The Government redefined yesterday a norm that regulates the designation of relatives in public positions, onlyt two days after aborting the appointment of Carmen Madriz Contreras to vice chancellor.

Foreigners Arrested in San Jose
A surprise police operation left 50 foreigners detained, the majority women, Thursday night in the Hotel Del Rey.

The authorities will investigate their cases for possible deportation.

The operation, organized between the Direction of Migracion and Extranjerνa, the Fuerza Publia and Interpol, took place between  9:15 p. m. and  10:30 p. m. in several night spots, where the foreign workers abound.

In agreement with Badilla Frame, director of Migracion, the plan consisted of verifying the documentation of the foreighers, many which lacked identification and others presented/displayed writings of doubtful validity.

Most of the arrested people are Colombian and Dominican; also it appeared there were Nicaraguan, Russian and Rumanian in the group

According to the authorities, all the detained will have to show to the legality of his/her status in the country if they want to remain here


New rules for cellular phones

In the days of fiscal crisis, the Government scraped the pot and found that thousands of cellular telephones that circulate in the market they do not pay tax, although would have.

For that reason the day before yesterday three measures were published in the Newspaper to collect ’3.000 million with cellular phones using the GSM service that began this week.

Thus, beginning this week all users who want their cellular phone connected for service must present an invoice of proof of purchase, which will mean a hard blow to the informal cellular telephone market.

Any cellular telephone to be connected to the service must have customs duty paid. If you bring your purchased your telephone from outside of Costa Rica and brought it with you, must must have the customs declaration stamp in your passport.
