More women killed by domestic
violence
Translated from
Three hours before the beginning of
2003, Ana Carolina Chinchilla, of 19 years, died after receiving
several gunshots by her companion.
No truce.
The domestic violence does not take vacations; on the contrary, it
increases in the days of family gatherings and celebrations.
With her, 24 women were killed during 2002 by domestic violence,
more of the double than in 2001, according to statistics of the
Delegaciσn de la Mujer.
This organization, assigned to the
Instituto Nacional de las Mujeres (Inamu), indicate that in the 2001,
11 women were killed under the same conditions.
"It worries us that it is in the
family where the women find the death. We cannot allow that these
acts continue ", said to Ana Lucia Stopper, of the Delegation.
As it usually happens, in December
the number of 'denuncias' by domestic violence rose.
In the last month of 2002, 9.328
calls were received at the hotline 800-300-3000. In fact, more than
698 calls were placed from the 27 to the 31 of December. In October
5,887 calls were taken, in September the report was of 6,337 and in
August of 7.092.
"the number increases because at
this time of year there is less tolerance, there is less
communication and add to that the constant loss of values is
added", added Stopper.
