The Government hopes to collect
’3.000 million fighting the evasion of taxes
with cellular telephones by demanding
an invoice to activate a cellular line.
Until yesterday, at least, ICE did
not demand the invoice for the mobile telephone to the users who who
wanted a new line installed on the unit.
That measure had been ordered by
Ministerio de Hacienda to avoid the entrance of cellular telephones
to the country without payment of taxes.
Several users who obtained lines GSM
confirmed that this week they had not been requested the invoice by
ICE.
La Nacion consulted why, calling 193
- only source of intelligence available and the answer was that the
new rule will come after the resolution is published in the official
newspaper La Gaceta.
Nevertheless, on the 18th of December
the director of TMinisterio de Hacienda, published such directive in
the Newspaper.
All user were forced to
present/display an invoice for his telephone in the branches of ICE
and authorized retailers.
Thus, ’3.000 million in taxes would
be collected by cellular users when the Government is in urgent need
of funds.
Legal resolution?
Also, several authorized retailers were
consulted yesterday if they requested the proof of purchase.
Some said they would only connect the
line if the customer purchased the telephone from them, in which
they received a commission from ICE.
Top Cellular requested the invoices.
But, manager, Ιdgar Pacheco, explained that would also activate
telephones although the user does not have the document.
According to him, he was told by ICE
that the new regulations would be adhere to until there is a
resolution form the legal department.
Zaida Placido , of the cellular
distributor of Mσvilec, confirmed that during the first week
in of the GSM technology, they connected several telephones
and in ICE did requestthe invoices.
Meanwhile, the 'defensor de los
habitantes', Jose Manuel Echandi, announced yesterday that he will
demand to ICE and to the Regulating Authority of the Services Public
an investigation into cellular service.
