Yellow Journalism
|
"Yellow journalism
is a type of journalism where sensationalism
triumphs over factual reporting. This may take
such forms as the use of colorful adjectives,
exaggeration, a careless lack of fact-checking
for the sake of a quick "breaking news" story,
or even deliberate falsification of entire
incidents" |
Normally, we
don't give two hoots what our competition is talking about us behind our backs.
Hey, we are the small publication that grew. And, like the 'eveready' bunny, we
keep on going.
In yesterday's publication of AmCostarica, James (Jay) Brodell, editor of that
publication, in a report of the New Fantasy Massage closing by the Municipality
of San José last Friday, made the sure to mention that the web page by that
business was designed by istarmedia, owned and operated by yours truly and also
publishes insidecostarica.com
And, he went to further make the implication that istarmedia somehow has a role
in the administration and operation of New Fantasy, quoting the administrative
contacts for New Fantasy's website.
iStarmedia has clients - businesses or services that want a online presence - in
the casinos, entertainment, hotels, restaurants, travel and tourism, online
shopping/sales and much more.
This editorial is not to defend our business practice, just to set Jay Brodell
straight on the facts:
1. iStarmedia "did" design the New Fantasy website, as well as host it. New
Fantasy paid for that service, as any other client.
2. The domain contacts are and always will be a question for the ages. A domain
name search will reveal several different contacts - registrant, administrative
and technical contacts.
This information is used by domain registrars to make notifications for any
changes to the domain name. iStarmedia, like all other web companies, used the
practice of being on record for all actions on the domain. Most clients have no
understanding of how domain names work and how to make transfers to DNS, etc.
and this is one more service iStarmedia provides it's clients.
3. The New Fantasy website has been off-line for months, this at the request of
the operators.
4. A cache only holds information of websites that one has visited. The New
Fantasy website cannot be accessed and for Jay Brodell to have it on his cache
means he has to have visited the website before October 2003 or he had to have
saved it.
5. The domain contact information - the one that claims Enrico Cacciatore (me)
is the administrative contact is old. We changed domain registrars many moons
ago and the information he has, is again, old information he saved.
We I could go on, but, well... I need to get to designing and host more
websites! Jay, if you ever are in the need for a website, call on me. And I
promise, I will not put my name or that of iStarmedia as the Administrative,
technical or other contact. It will be just between us.
