Santa Ana Will Hold Its traditional Onion Fair
●  Activity will be held from March 14 to 18

Some 36 small producers from Santa Ana and Escazú are preparing for the traditioa "Feria de Cebolla" (Onion) that will be held between March 14 and 18 in the vicinity of the Catholic church in Santa Ana centre.

During the 5 days visitors can buy red and yellow onions of high quality and 100% nationally grown.

On hand will also be typical Costa Rican meals, activities, dances, concerts, marching bands, fireworks, masquerades and a 'greasy pole' contest.

The fair has been held each year since 1991 as an initiative to improve the marketing of onions and has the support of the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG) - Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and the Centro Agrícola Cantonal de Santa Ana.

The producers grow some 980 tons of onions each year and sold at farmer's markets at different points and the PIMA CENADA.

The average price received by the farmers is ¢750 colones per kilogram.
