Nicaragua
to
Expand
Scope
of
Operation
Miracle
for
Ophthalmology
Operation
Miracle,
dedicated
to
eye
surgeries,
will
expand
its
scope
in
Nicaragua
with
the
performance
of a
traveling
surgical
unit
to
reach
more
remote
sites.
Rosario
Murillo,
coordinator
of
the
Communication
and
Citizenship
Council,
announced
that
the
service
will
go
first
to
the
so-called
Mining
Triangle
area,
in
the
North
Atlantic
Autonomous
Region.
This
includes
the
municipalities
of
Siuna,
Bonanza
and
Rosita,
where
there
are
many
requests
from
residents,
Murillo
said
in
her
regular
program
on
Channel
4 on
national
television.
Operation
Miracle
began
in
Nicaragua
in
May
2007
and
has
recorded
some
100,000
surgeries
so
far
with
the
participation
of
specialists
from
Cuba
and
Nicaragua.
In
international
market
prices,
the
placement
of
an
intraocular
lens
would
cost
at
least
two
thousand
dollars,
and
if
we
calculate
the
price
for
100,000
operations,
we
could
assess
the
social
impact
of
this
program
that
is
free
for
the
people
of
Nicaragua,
Dr.
Vincent
Moran,
who
heads
the
Cuban
experts,
told
a
television
network.
Presenting
the
government
commitments
for
the
current
term,
President
Daniel
Ortega
included
the
desire
to
treat
other
100,000
people
through
Operation
Miracle,
from
2012
to
2016. |
