Eliminate
Air
Bags
In
Vehicles
The
Cámara
Costarricense
Automotriz
(CCA)
-
Costa
Rica's
automotive
association
- is
vocal
in
criticizing
transit
officials
who
want
to
eliminate
the
use
of
airbags
in
all
vehicles,
although
the
law
establishes
that
all
cars
entering
the
country
must
have
at
least
two.
According
to
the
president
of
the
CCA,
Jose
Carballo,
seat
belts
save
lives
65%
of
the
times
and
if
supplemented
with
airbags,
that
increases
by
another
15%.
Carballo
said
many
of
the
cars
entering
Costa
Rica
are
registered
illegally.
Supporting
the
CCA
is
the
Defensoría
de
los
Habitantes
(Ombudsman)
who
recommended
to
the
Ministerio
de
Transportes
(Ministry
of
Transport)
to
maintain
in
force
the
provisions
of
the
Ley
de
Tránsito
(Traffic
Act),
and
asked
for
a
review
of
the
l
Manual
de
Procedimientos
para
la
Revisión
Técnica
(Manual
of
Procedures
for
the
Technical
Review)
and
comply
with
all
the
legal
requirements.
