Successful
First
Steps to
Solve
Nicaragua-Costa
Rica
Conflict
The
first
four-way
meeting
promoted
by
Mexico
and
Guatemala
to find
a
solution
to the
Nicaragua-Costa
Rica
border
conflict
was
rated as
successful,
the
local
press in
Mexico
reported
on
Tuesday.
Both the
facilitators
and the
parties
in
conflict
described
as very
important
and
useful
the
meeting
in
Cuernavaca,
known as
a
facilitation
exercise,
according
to press
reports.
After
the
talks
yesterday
headed
by the
foreign
ministers
of
Mexico,
Patricia
Espinosa,
and
Guatemala,
Haroldo
Rodas
Melgar,
the
four-way
facilitation
exercise
was
officially
set up.
It was
agreed
during
the
closed-door
meeting
that
foreign
ministers
or other
representatives
from
Guatemala
and
Mexico
attend
future
talks on
the
issue,
and that
they
visit
San José
(Costa
Rica)
and
Managua
(Nicaragua)
Representatives
of Costa
Rica and
Nicaragua,
ambassadors
Melvin
Saenz
and
Denis
Moncada,
respectively,
thanked
Mexico
for its
hospitality
during
the
meeting,
and also
Guatemala
for
offering
to host
the
second
dialogue
of the
facilitation
exercise.
