Atenas
No Tolls
Costing
Autopistas
$800.000
Monthly
Although
the
Ministerio
de Obras
Publicas
y
Transportes
(MOPT)
is
keeping
alive
the
possibility
of
fining
Autopistas
del Sol
for the
failure
of the
San José
-
Caldera,
the loss
to the
concessionaire
for not
charging
the
tolls at
Atenas
is some
us$800.000
monthly.
The
Concejo
Nacional
de
Concesiones
(CNC)
ordered
the
tolls at
Atenas
to be
suspended
while
the
Bailey
bridges
continue
in use
at
kilometre
47,
after a
landslide
washed
away a
part of
the
roadway.
The
manage
of the
CNC,
Edwin
Rodríguez,
explained
that the
order
suspends
all
tolls at
Atenas
until
the end
of
February
and that
the CNC
is
maintaining
its
options
open to
a fine,
though
the
amount
has yet
to be
determined.
The
problems
on the
new
highway
that on
the 27th
of the
this
month
completes
one year
in use
began
during
the
heavy
rainy
season
of 2010,
when
rock
falls
and
landslides
forced
the
closure
of the
highway
on
several
occasions.
In
addition,
the
rainy
season
left
several
sections
of the
highway
with
dips in
the
roadway.
Rodríguez
said
that the
dips
will be
levelled
once the
kilometre
47 works
begins
that
will
force a
temporary
closure
between
Orotina
and
Atenas. |
