Lula for International
Financial System Reform

Lula da Silva will travel to Switzerland
Wednesday to defend the need to immediately
reform the international financial system,
during the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Lula will point out in the meeting that
structural changes in world financial
entities aim at providing the bases for a
new government, no longer allowing few
countries make the most important decisions
for the world economy, presidential
spokesman Marcelo Baumbach said in press
conference.
He added the Brazilian president will
reiterate the call to bring the Doha Round
to a successful end, and once again warn on
the need to reform international political
institutions, adjusting them to the current
reality.
Lula will particularly stress the importance
of reforming the UN, to keep it in the
center of the world order, Baumbach
indicated.
After his speech, Lula will be given the
Global Statesmanship Prize of the World
Economic Meeting. The prize, to be granted
for the first time in the 40 years of the
Forum, is recognition to Lula's work
bringing the country towards economic
development and social progress in a
balanced way.
