Chile Hosts World March for Peace Concert

SANTIAGO DE CHILE - Some 50,000 Chileans attended the World March for Peace Concert, started October 2 in Wellington, New Zealand, on World´s Non Violence Day, with closing set for January 2 in Punta de Vacas Park, Argentina.

The March has toured 90 countries and involves now singers Pedro Aznar, Cesar Isella, Victorio Menghi and Cristian Soloa of Argentina, Fernando Jimenez (Costa Rica) and Dr Krapula band of Colombia.

Chile is represented, among other, by Inti Illimani Historico, Lucybell, Chancho en Piedra, Florcita Motuda and Sol y Lluvia.

President Michelle Bachelet and Minister for Culture Paulina Urrutia, among other personalities, greeted some 12 organizers of the World March Peace Concert led by Spaniard Rafael de la Rubia in La Moneda Palace.

The activists, who call to ban nuclear and conventional weaponry development, to withdraw occupation troops and sign anti-war pacts, held Tuesday a human rights rally in Santiago's ex illegal detention and torture center Villa Grimaldi, renamed Parque por la Paz.
