Moderate Earthquake Shakes Guatemala

GUATEMALA  - An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale shook Guatemala early Thursday morning, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage, the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER) said.

According to the INETER, the quake's epicenter was located some489 km northwest of Guatemala City. It occurred at 4:12 a.m. local time (1012 GMT).

The earthquake had a depth of 25 km, and "it was an event related to a local failure," the INETER said on its website.
