Honduras Putsch Opponents Persecuted
TEGUCIGALPA - The Committee for the
defense of the Human Rights (CODEH)
denounced that hundreds people are being
persecuted for demanding justice and
opposing themselves the de facto regime
installed after the Putsch.
The country is still facing selective
persecution, arrests and disciplinary
actions against members of the resistance
movement, alerted CODEH in a release.
Among the most recent cases it mentioned
harassment against farmers in Aguan area
threatened with eviction by the police and
paramilitary groups at the service of
growers Rene Morales and Miguel Facusse.
To this event is added kidnapping and
tortures to independent journalist Cesar
Silva and repression to the media opposed to
last June coup against President Manuel
Zelaya.
Many people marked for being members of the
National Front against the Putsch are forced
to leave the country, affirmed CODEH.
The Committee for the Defense of Human
Rights alerted the international community
over the situation and demanded support to
protect those people threatened.
In addition several media were threatened
and two of them Radio Globo and Channel 36
were closed and militarily occupied. |
