Correa
to
Coordinate
Storm
Aid in
Colombia,
Venezuela
QUITO -
President
Rafael
Correa
will
visit
Venezuela
and
Colombia
next
week to
coordinate
solidarity
actions
in the
wake of
natural
disasters
in those
countries,
a note
from
Foreign
Ministry
said.
According
to the
text,
the
objective
of
Correaâ�Ös
trip is
to
combine
regional
efforts
to
mitigate
the
impact
of heavy
rain of
the last
few
weeks in
those
territories,
with
Ecuador
providing
2,000
food
rations
for the
victims.
The
Government
of
Ecuador
already
sent
several
tons of
food,
mattresses,
blankets,
tents
and
water
tanks to
Venezuela.
Venezuelan
President
Hugo
Chavez
put off
a
meeting
this
week
with
Correa
in Quito
due to
the
situation
in his
country
in the
wake of
the
storm.
Heavy
rain
hitting
those
nations,
linked
to La
Nina
meteorological
event,
caused
more
than one
hundred
deaths
in the
two
countries,
as well
as
building
collapses
and
landslides,
and
health
disasters
are
feared.
The note
says
that
Correa
will
travel
to
Venezuela
on
Tuesday
and
Colombia
on
Wednesday,
accompanied
by
ministers
and
other
members
of his
Cabinet.
