Correa
Is
Offering
To
Mediate
Costa
Rica's
Conflict
With
Nicaragua
Ecuador's
president,
Rafael
Correa,
has
decided
to throw
his hat
in the
Nicaragua
- Costa
Rica
ring by
offering
himself
as
mediator
to the
border
conflict.
Costa
Rica's
vice-chancellor
Carlos
Roverssi
and
Ecuador's
Ministro
de
Defensa,
Javier
Ponce,
confirmed
the
offer by
Correa,
who has
contacted,
on
several
occasions,
both
Daniel
Ortega
and
Laura
Chinchilla
and
offered
his
mediation.
The news
of
Correa's
offer
comes at
a time
when
Ortega
has
accepted
to
dialogue
with
Chinchilla
in the
presence
of
"friendly"
nations
and
without
conditions.
Correa's
proposal
includes
the
presence
of
officials
from
Cuba,
Venezuela,
Colombia
and
Mexico.
"President
Correa
proposes
a
commission
of
friend
countries,
but
Nicaragua
has
refused.
For
that,
the
position
of
president
Otega is

president
Correa
has
offered
his
country

as Cuba,
Venezuela,
Colombia
and
Mexico

guarantors

said
Carlos
Roverssi.
The
Costa
Rican
officials
showed
skepticism
on talks
being
held,
saying
that
Correa
has
spoken a
number
of times
with
Chinchilla
and
Ortega,
but
Nicaragua
has
always
refused
any
option.
"There
is
nothing
pending,
the
subject
is
frozen",
said
Roverssi.
