Willing
To Talk
But
Without
Conditions
Or The OAS
Nicaragua's
president
Daniel
Ortega
said
that he
would be
willing
to meet
with
Costa
Rica's
president
Laura
Chinchilla,
to
dialogue
on the
border
dispute,
in the
presence
of
"friendly"
nations
but
without
the
presence
of
Organization
of
American
States
(OAS)
officials.

Ortega
said
that the
proposal
is to
reduce
tensions
between
the two
nations
before
the
court
trial at
the
International
Court of
Justice
in The
Hague,
after
Costa
Rica
filed a
lawsuit
charging
Nicaragua
with
environmental
damage
and a
military
invasion
of its
territory
by the
neighbouring
country.
"I am
ready
today to
go
anywhere
presidenta
Laura
Chinchilla
says,
without
any
conditions",
said
Ortega
said
Friday
night.
In his
comments,
Ortega
suggested
finding
Latin
American
nations
as
"witness"
to the
talks.
Ortega
suggested
Cuba,
Venezuela
and
Mexico
or any
other
nation
Costa
Rica
proposes
and
feels
more
comfortable
with.
Ortega
has
never
said not
to
dialogue,
just as
this
announcement,
it has
be free
of
conditions.
On
Thursday presidenta
Chinchilla
set a
December
20 date to meet
in
Liberia,
Guanacaste.
However,
before
the
meeting
Chinchilla
wants
Ortega
to
remove
his
troops
from the
disputed
area and
that OAS
officials
would be
the
mediators,
condition
Ortega
said he
could
not
accept.
Following
Ortega's
announcement,
Chinchilla
said
"Costa
Rica is
interested,
but that
dialogue
must be
without
the
presence
of
troops
and
between
equals."
Chinchilla
stressed
that the
OAS
chapter
is now
closed
and the
national
strategy
is to
focus on
the
international
court
hearing.
