Rules
out
Famine
after
Rain
Emergency
CARACAS
- The
president
of the
National
Confederation
of
Farmers
and
Ranchers
of
Venezuela
(Confagan),
Jose
Agustin
Campos,
has
ruled
out a
famine
following
the
state of
emergency
caused
by
recent
rains.
Campos
said
that
though
70
municipalities
in the
country
have
been
affected
by heavy
rainfall,
with a
negative
impact
on the
agricultural,
cattle,
and
fishing
production,
neither
a famine
crisis
nor a
social
revolt
will
break
out.
The rest
of the
countryâ�Ös
municipalities
are
working
at top
speed to
meet the
needs of
those
hit by
rains
and
flooding,
said the
president
of
Confagan.
The
State of
Zulia is
an
important
milk
producer
and it
has been
very
affected
by the
rains.
However,
Barinas,
Apure,
and
Monagas
states
continue
producing
milk,
besides
beef,
noted
Campos.
In
remarks
to
Venezolana
de
Television,
the
Confagan
leader
said
that
Venezuela
has a
production
infrastructure
that
will
overcome
the
damage
in those
70
municipalities.
Campos
said
that
milk
production
dropped
30
percent,
but that
momentary
drop
does not
affect
the
general
production
capacity.
