Fishman's Wife In The Running For Calderón
Vice-Presidency
Aida Faingezicht Weisleder, former reporter
and legislative deputy (2202-2006) and wife
of Luis Fishman, president of the PUSC
party, will be vice-president to Rafael
Angel Calderón, if elected president next
February.
At least that is the rumour that is
circulating in anticipation of the October
11 announcement to be made by Calderón
before the PUSC national assembly on his
choice of his two vice presidents if he were
to form a government.
However, there is one major roadblock to the
Weisleder and another other person being
appointed and that is the expected verdict
of the Caja-Fischel case due on October 5,
when Calderón could be found innocent or
guilty on charges of fraud and embezzlement.
Calderón has been on trial since late last
year, who along with seven others, were
charged for pocketing proceeds from the
purchase of medical equipment by the Caja,
by way of the Fischel Corporation, using
funds from a multimillion dollar loan
provided by the government of Finland.
The Weisleder and Calderón relationship goes
back some way, as Weisleder was ministra de
Cultura in the Calderón government of
1990-1994.
Luis Fishman said that he hopes that the
vice-presidential candidates will help
attract more votes to the party and that he
is "optimistic in the absolute" that at
2:30pm on Monday, October 5, Calderón will
be absolved of all wrongdoing.
