
AH1N1 Deaths In Costa Rica Rises To 37
The number of deaths related to the AH1N1
flu virus in Costa Rica has shot up to 37,
three more than last week, according to
information released by the Ministerio de
Salud.
The three new deaths are of a Nicaraguan,
Panamanian and Costa Rica all infected in
Costa Rica.
Dr. María Luisa Ávila, the ministra de Salud,
said the deaths were not recent, rather
occurring during the past month, but only
confirmed this week.
One of the victims was a 45 year old
indigenous man from Panama and living in
Limón. Salud officials say the man as a
heavy smoker adn suffered from lung problems
causing the AH1N1 to be more aggressive. The
second was of a 22 year old Nicaraguan who
had asthma and was only in the country for
two months. The Costa Rican victim was a 40
year old man from Pérez Zeledón who suffered
from high blood pressure.
The ministra de Salud confirmed that to date
there have been 1.315 cases of infections of
the AH1N1.
