Honduran Elections Illegal, Says Zelaya
Managua - Constitutional President of
Honduras Jose Manuel Zelaya reiterated on
Tuesday the illegality of the electoral
process called by the putschists in his
country and urged political forces to
boycott it.
One should not take part in any electoral
activity unless President Zelaya is
reinstated at the helm of the Government of
the Republic, says a press release
distributed by the Honduran Embassy in
Managua.
In the document, the head of State says
there cannot be any talk of elections, as
there are no guarantees that the will of the
people will be respected and the President
is exiled.
If it happens, any organized group can be
able to stage a military coup in any country
around the world, and then call to elections
and remain in power.
According to press reports, in the next few
days Costa Rican President Oscar Arias is
expected to meet with electoral candidates
to get support to Zelaya's reinstatement as
the only way to validate the elections and
apply the San Jose Agreement.
Honduran Foreign Minister Patricia Rodas
said recently that this step must be
achieved in September and that Zelaya is
ready to return with his Cabinet to
Tegucigalpa and endorse the initiative of
the US State Department boosted by Arias.
