Sele Loses, Again!
The Costa Rican national soccer team, the "Sele",
lost once again in World Cup qualifying,
this time to El Salvador 0-1, leaving it in
fourth place and possibly out of
competition.
This is the third game in a row that the
Sele has lost - first to Honduras, then
Mexico and last to El Salvador - putting in
fourth place with 12 points, behind Honduras
with 13, Mexico with 15 and the US with 16.
The top three teams qualify for the World
Cup, and the No. 4 goes to a playoff against
the fifth-place team in South America.
The Sele will have an opportunity to stay in
the competition by winning against Trinidad
and Tobago on October 10 and the USA four
days later.
Of course a loss by Mexico, the US and
Honduras will also boost the Sele's chances.
