Mexican Paliza!
Costa Rica 0, Mexico 3
The Costa Rican national soccer team this
morning wakes up to being in fourth place
after getting a "paliza" (a beating) on its
own turf last night by the Mexican national
soccer team.
Final score - Mexico 3, Costa Rica 0.
The loss puts Costa Rica behind the United
States, Honduras and Mexico in its CONCACAF
division and could face elimination from
World Cup play in South Africa in 2010.
It wasn't only a loss, but a no score loss.
Worse yet is that the sele has had
seven goals against it and unable to score
one of their own in the last two games.
Many feel that "sele" as fallen apart.
The Mexican team, one could say, began last
night's win days ago, when the Mexican coach
emphasized to his players that the Costa
Ricans shrink when pressed by their
opponents and as such, last night the
Mexicans pressed the Costa Ricans from the
first minutes, controlling the field forcing
the opponent to make costly mistakes.
The Sele never could regain control of the
field, especially the midfield.
The FIFA standings following last night's
loss puts Costa Rica in fourth place with 12
points, behind Mexico with 12, the USA and
Honduras with 13.
Trailing in the North, Central America and
Caribbean group are El Salvador with 5 and
Trinidad and Tobago with 5 points each.
