Santo Domingo - Dominican authorities announced on Saturday they will implement a program to teach a substantial number of citizens to read and write.

The project will comprise about 700,000 Dominicans over 15 years, in a four-year term, aimed at eradicating illiteracy in the country, the Education Ministry said.

The initiative will begin this year, with a budget of nearly 16 million dollars. Experts from the Cuban literacy program Yes, I Can, implemented in several countries and in different languages, will collaborate, it was informed.
