Wave
of Price Increases On Public Services Are On
The Way
2010 appears it may start off with a wave of
higher prices for many public services as
the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios
Públicos (ARESEP) in being inundated with
requests for price hikes, primarily in
public transportation.
Four requests on hand will affect the entire
country as bus and taxi operators are
looking for more money for their services.
The cost of correo (mail) may go up and the
new regulations affecting telecommunications
will surely affect the low rates for
telephone, in particular cellular service,
when competition in the sector will take
place in 2010.
The Aresep will be working overtime next
month to deal with all the requests, that
may take effect either in December or
January.
