TACA
Offers Orlando - San José Three Times A Week
TACA joins JetBlue in providing service
between Orlando, Florida and San José, Costa
Rica, with three flights a week beginning on
November 1.
The Central American airline with a hub in
San José is expanding its routes following
it's partnering with Colombia's airline,
Avianca.
TACA will fly between Orlando - San José
three times a week, with a brief stop at
TACA's hub in El Salvador, while JetBlue,
which began flying to Costa Rica this past
spring flies direct.
The TACA connection in El Salvador also
means an excellent connection to Nicaragua
and Panama.
The cost of the flight is being offered at
us$250 rountrip, leaving at 6am from Orlando
Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, arriving
in Costa Rica at 9:45am. The return flight
leaves at 11:05pm Sundays, Wednesdays and
Fridays.
The TACA and JetBlue flights take up the
slack after Martinair pulled out of the
Orlando market, forcing travellers to use
Miami served by American, Houston by
Continental or Atlanta by Delta.
The TACA Orlando service is also a boost to
Costa Rica's surfing industry as TACA
accepts surfboards for a us$50 fee, while
other airlines charge excessive board fees
of us$150 to us$300 or do not accept them at
all.
"This summer, Costa Rica dropped big time,"
said Holland, of Surf Express International
and whose son, Todd, is a former ASP World
Tour surfer. "Fortunately, Nicaragua and
Indonesia picked up. Some of (the slowdown)
was due to the economy, and the prices; some
was due to longevity. Like Cancun was once
the hot spot, a lot of people have been to
Costa Rica already, so they wanted to go
somewhere different."
