Colombian Soldiers Arrested in Rancher’s
Death
BOGOTA – A non-commissioned army officer and
nine enlisted men have been arrested in
connection with the killing of a rancher
earlier this month, Colombian authorities
said.
Police detained the military men as suspects
in the killing of rancher Braulio Jose
Barrera in a hamlet of the eastern province
of Casanare.
“The crime was committed on Oct. 4 at the El
Banco ranch, located in the village of San
Pedro de Sabanalarga (Casanare), where the
soldiers attached to the army’s 16th Brigade
allegedly fired at Barrera and his wife, who
was wounded,” the Attorney General’s Office
said in a statement.
The soldiers were arraigned late Thursday on
murder and attempted murder charges, the
