Rica
WASHINGTON - U.S.
President Barack Obama on Monday called his
counterparts in Costa Rica, Mexico and
Colombia, vowing to strengthen cooperation
with those countries on common challenges.
According to a White House statement, Obama
thanked Oscar Arias of Costa Rica, Felipe Calderon of Mexico,
and Alvaro Uribe
of Colombia for their respective calls
regarding the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize, which
was awarded to Obama for "his extraordinary
efforts to strengthen international
diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."
"President (Obama) reaffirmed his commitment
to continuing efforts to work in partnership
to promote greater economic and social
inclusion, dismantle illicit drug
trafficking organizations, and confront
other key challenges facing the people of
the Americas today," said the statement.
Mexico, Costa Rica and Colombia are all
Washington's important partners in Latin
America. The Obama administration has been
seeking a new approach to strengthen U.S.
