Economist and Biologist Are Chinchilla's
Choice For Vice-Presidents
Laura Chinchilla, the presidential candidate
for the Partido Liberación
Nacional (PLN) annouced her running mates in
the February 7, 2010, elections.
At 11:30am, the PLN
general assembly gathers in the Pueblo
Antiguo (Old Town) areas of the Parrque
Nacional de Diversiones, Chinchilla made
public the names of her two vice-presidents,
banker and businessman, Luis Liberman and
Biologist Algio Piva.
Piva, a doctor in Animal Biology graduated
from the Milan University in Italy, will be
the first vice-president.
Piva was one of
the founders of the Escuela de Veterinaria
de la Universidad Nacional (veterinary
school at the National University and has
spent most of his career at INbio (Instituto
Nacional de Biodiversidad).
Liberman has a Doctorate of Economics from
Illinois University and was an economics
professor at the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR),
a director of the Instituto Costarricense de
Electricidad (ICE) and founder of the
Corporación Internacional de Finanzas, which
later became Interfin, Costa Rica's
largest private bank, selling out to Scotiabank in 2006.
