Contractor To Be Fined For Delay In Road Construction

Residents of San Francisco have had enough, enough of the constant delays in traffic in the area due to an never ending construction project to expand and improve the main road between San Francisco and La Colina.

The project is to reconstruct some 1.7 kilometres of road and the contract called for a complection date of October 7, yesterday.

However, the work continues and there seems no end in sight, as at least 100 metres of concrete of the roadway still needs to be poured.

To force the issue, the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT), said it will be exercising its right to fine the construction company, Holcim-Santa Fé, ¢1.2 million colones daily for every day it delays completion.

Holcim said the work should be completed in five days.
