Costa Rica 2008-09 Coffee Exports End Down 17%
DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

Costa Rican coffee exports in the now completed 2008-09 crop cycle ended down 17% at 1,318,420 bags of 60 kilograms each, the official Costa Rican Coffee Institute, or Icafe, said Thursday.

This compares with exports of 1,588,005 bags in the 2007-08 crop year, which runs from October through September, an Icafe official told Dow Jones Newswires, releasing first preliminary figures for the cycle.

Costa Rican coffee exports in September, the 12th and last month of the 2008-09 crop cycle, meanwhile fell 72% to 14,942 bags, compared with exports of 52,507 bags in the same month last year, the Icafe official said.

Costa Rican coffee production in the current 2008-09 harvest cycle is estimated to have ended 15% lower at 1.595 million bags, Icafe said earlier this year, down from output in the last 2007-08 year of 1.876 million bags
