Liberia has its Science Corner
(InfoWeb Press) Last month a letter of
understanding for the opening of the Science
Corner at the School of Agriculture of the
Humid Tropics (EARTH), Liberia chapter.
The Science Corner has as an objective the
generation of innovative ideas that help
promote the development by means of
entrepreneurial spirit, social justice,
technological innovation and the creation of
alternatives to protect the environment.
This multimedia center offers the public
scientific information of the United States
by mean of a collection of books, videos,
Internet, local programs and magazines.
Conferences and meetings related to
scientific subjects can also be held here.
The resources for the Science Corner will be
a collection of books about divers subjects
on the United States, like space
exploration, the environment and science in
general, magazines, movies and scientific
documentaries and free access to the
Internet.
The activity was carried out at the Dr.
Franklin Chang Diaz National Center for
Science and Technology (CENAT for its abbr.
in Spanish) where the formalization of the
alliance between the Public Affairs Section
of the Embassy of the United States of
America and EARTH University, an institution
adhered to SINAES.
The signing of the letter of understanding
was under the care of Alex Mata,
representative at EARTH, and the person in
charge of Business Affairs from the United
State Embassy, Peter Brennan. Also the
Ministry of Science and Technology of Costa
Rica, Eugenia Flores, and the Subsecretary
of State of the United States for Oceans,
Environment and Science, Dr. Kerri-Ann
Jones, signed as honorary witnesses.
During the activity, Guillermo Vargas,
President of SINAES, underlined the
commitment of EARTH University with the
principles of quality that the Official
Acreditation Office dirves and underlined
the importance of this type of strategic
alliances for the consolidation of a culture
of quality in costarrican superior
education.
Meanwhile, Peter Brennan manifested that
this Science Corner is a gift of the people
of the United States to the people of
Guanacaste, and Costa Rica in general, with
the intention of fortifying the already
existing bonds of friendship.
After the event, the Subsecretary of State
of the United States for Oceans, Environment
and Science, Dr. Kerri-Ann Jones pointed out
that this multimedia center will give the
public availability to scientific
information of the United States by means of
collections of books, videos, Internet,
local programs and magazines.
Dr. Jones added that the United States will
always support initiatives that are geared
towards the Development of science and
technology since it is proven that they
contribute to improving the quality of life
for the country’s inhabitants.
On her behalf, the Ministry of Science and
Technology, Eugenia Flores, pointed out that
this alliance transcends this educational
institution and underlined that this support
greatly benefits all of the province of
Guanacaste.
