Yard Dogs Members Compete in Costa Rica
By Eric MacKenzie, The Daily Graphic
Don Sissons and Cory Smith found out
first-hand that the terrain in Costa Rica
isn't quite the same as it is at home in
Portage la Prairie.
The two Junkyard Dogs cycling team members
shared a phenomenal experience early this
month by competing in the four-stage La Ruta
de los Conquistadores Adventure Race in the
Central American country, with both turning
in outstanding results.
Sissons and Smith both survived a course
that snaked from Costa Rica's Pacific coast
to the Carribean Sea on Nov. 11-14,
summiting volcanoes and traversing through
waist-high mud while watching out for
crocodiles and other dangerous wildlife
along the way.
"It was a real adventure," said Sissons.
"The rainy season came late this year and
stayed longer, and they said it was the
wettest year of 17 years of this race. It
certainly lived up to its billing.
