Panamanian Forces: Operations Against Crime

PANAMA - The operation Green December operated by the Panamanian police to ensure security in this time of year reflects as the main result the weapons seizure and the detention of fugitives from justice.

National Police managers recalled that Special Forces troops are involved in these actions in surveillance works in points where great deal of money and business is appreciated.

In the opening balance sheet it was mentioned the retention of a dozen illegal immigrants and the dismantling of a clandestine laboratory dedicated to document forgery.

For this operation, the police have all their forces and support from entities like the State Border Service and Air Station.

The issue of insecurity is one of the major concerns of the population taking into account the increase in serious crimes such as homicides.

Statistics from the Judicial Investigation Department showed that up to November 26 there have been 687 killings across the country which overcomes in 24 cases the records for all of 2008.
