Panama Students
Return To University
Gradually
PANAMA - Panama University begin on
Thursday the progressive return to classes
in many of its buildings, where activities
were suspended indefinitely in protest
against naval stations in that country.
University's authorities pointed out that
activities will begin in the faculties of
Health Sciences, Natural Sciences and
Technology and Computer Sciences.
The remaining divisions are expected to join
on Wednesday in the capital and the Colon
province institution's headquarters, they
added.
The University Academic Council suspended
the activities after student organizations'
demonstrations last November 18.
The students called people to be alert
before possible US military presence in
naval stations, which will set up in many
points of the country.
Social movements' representatives have drawn
attention many times about the authorities'
decisions of setting up eight stations in
the Atlantic as in the Pacific coasts.
Government said it have to adopt that
measure due to the growing whip of drugs in
the country' coasts and waters.
The US ambassador in Panama, Barbara
Stephenson, said recently that three
American security organizations will train
the Panamanian staff. |
