"Toros
A La Tica" Could Start On December 4th If "Redondel"
Passes Inspection Today
With a little over a month to Christmas, the
preparations for the Feria de Zapote, the
annual year festivities in San José have
begun.
In the last couple of weeks, the
Municipaliadad de San José had been busy to
auction off the concessions for the food
stands, the rides and the megabars, that
will open for business to tens of thousands
of visitors come Christmas day.
However, the focus of the Zapote is the
bulls and perhaps the most single important
event for the success of the fair is today's
inspection of the "redondel de toros" (bull
ring) by the Ministerio de Salud (Health
ministry).
The vice-ministra de Salud, Ana Morice,
explained that the inspection will be
focused on the structure, security,
emergency exists and the handling of waste.
BGL Consultores is the organizer of the
bulls, winning the contract to construct and
manage the redondel three years ago. Alvaro
Zamora, spokesperson for BGL, told the media
on Sunday that redondel is in excellent
condition and ready for the party.
Zamora added that this year the bulls event,
known as "toros a la tica" this year will
start on Decemeber 4, well ahead of the
Zapote Fair, and will feature an
international championship event during the
December 25 to January 3 fair.
Last year, the BGL didn't get approval from
the Ministerio de Salud to operate the
redondel until days before the opening of
the Zapote Fair, with the fear that the
bulls would not run at all, unless
organizers moved quickly to satisfy health
officials. They did and on December 15, the
bulls were on.
This year, according to Zamora, if they get
the green light this week, the bulls will be
enjoyed by many more than in the past due to
the early start. |
