El
Salvador to Receive 600,000
Anti-A(H1N1)Vaccines
SAN SALAVDOR - The Pan American Health
Organization (PAHO) will donate 600,000
vaccines against A(H1N1) influenza to El
Salvador, in emergency situation due to
rains from a tropical storm.
Health Minister Maria Isabel Rodriguez
explained that the country expects to
purchase other doses to complete the
donation from the international organization
and begin a vaccination campaign by mid
December.
Rodriguez informed that the nation had
already 26 confirmed deaths of this strain
of the flu, with slight worsening expected
due to the current state of emergency in the
country.
According to the official, respiratory
problems are the most frequent among the
13,000 persons that remain evacuated due to
the heavy rains that hit El Salvador on
November 7 and 8.
On Friday the Salvadoran government
confirmed 198 deaths as a result of the
rainfall and listed $8.6 million in
humanitarian aid received to date to care
for victims.
This aid includes machinery and equipment,
food, medicines and cash. |
