OIJ Agent Shot By Fellow Agent And Not Criminals, Director Says

The director of the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ), Jorge Rojas Vargas, confirmed on Tuesday that the death of agent Ronny Sojo Chacón during a shootout with criminals on October 20 was accidental, getting caught in the line of fire of a fellow agent.

Rojas said that the investigation concludes that the bullet that killed Sojo came from a 9mm used by a fellow OIJ agent and not the anti-socials, as it was first believed. Rojas said that the fatal shot was accidental, as Sojo got in the line of fire.

The OIJ director did not name the agent, who due to his subsequent actions, is subject to being fired from the force and face criminal charges.

Rojas said the charges are for the agent's action after the shooting, where he attempted to alter his weapon to impede the investigation and being discovered as the shooter.
