Almost 200 Deaths in El Salvador

SAN SALVADOR - Another three dead bodies were found increasing to 192 the number of death in El Salvador, affected by tropical storm Ida and an area of low-pressure from the Pacific Ocean last November 7 and 8.

According to a report from the Ministry of Civil Protection, those dead bodies were found at Paz Department, while rescue work will continue in the rest of the affected territories, especially in Verapaz Municipality where houses were buried by an avalanche of stones and mud from the Chinchontepec volcano.

There are about 80 missing people and 14,295 are living in 117 shelters throughout El Salvador.

The Mexican Embassy gave the Salvadoran authorities a batch with 59 tons of food, blankets and personal hygiene packages. They also announced a second dispatch including drinkable water.

El Salvador has received humanitarian aid from different countries such as Venezuela, Cuba, Guatemala, Spain, Japan, the United States of America, Nicaragua, Panama and from international organizations such as the UN, the Pan American Health Organization (OPS) and the International Red Cross.
