Chinchilla Continues On Top
It's still early to call a winner in the
2010 presidential elections. But, if the
elections were held today, Laura Chinchilla
of the Partido Liberación Nacional (PLN),
would be the hands down winner.
The latest poll by Borge y Asociados
commissioned by the Spanish language
newspaper, Diario Extra, Chinchilla is the
front runner with a 46.3% acceptance,
followed by Otto Guevara of the Movimiento
Libertario (ML) with 14.4% and Ottón Solís
of the Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC) with a
9.2%.
Rolando Araya of the Alianza Patriótica (AP)
trails with 2.2% and Oscar López of the
Partido Accesibilidad Sin Exclusión (PASE)
with 1.5%.
Guevara, Solís and Araya have all been here
before. However, only Solís and Araya have
had the smell of the presidential chair
within their grasp, only to lose it to their
opponent on election day.
In 2006, Solís came within a hair of taking
the election from Oscar Arias, who won with
less than a 1.000 votes after being the
front runner throughout the election, an
election where Arias was a certain shoe in.
In 2002 Araya, then candidate for the PLN,
lost the election to Abel Pacheco. Another
Araya, Johnny Araya, mayor of San José and
brother to Rolando, lost the PLN nomination
bid to Chinchilla.
The 2010 elections are similar in that
Chinchilla is expected to take the
presidential chair without much effort, as
indicated by the early polls. However, in
2010 it may not be Ottón to challenge the
presidential chair, but Otto.
The 2010 presidential elections are to be
held on Sunday, February 7. |
