British Tourist Carrying 1,000 Live Spiders
Arrested in Brazil
RIO DE JANEIRO – A British tourist carrying
1,000 live spiders was arrested at the Rio
de Janeiro international airport when he
tried to board a flight going overseas,
Brazilian police said Thursday.
The unidentified tourist was arrested
Wednesday by Federal Police officers who
found the spiders in the false bottoms of
the two suitcases the man was carrying.
Brazilian Environmental Protection Institute
agents helped the officers handle the
spiders, which will be examined and
identified by experts.
The Briton faces a fine of up to 4 million
reais (some $2.3 million) for trafficking in
wild animals, police said. EFE |
