Festival de Luz On December 12th
The Municipalidad de San José announced that
this year's Festival de Luz (Light Festival)
will take place on December 12. The annual
event takes place along Paseo Colón and
Avenida Central, from the east side of the
Parque La Sabana.
This year the municipality expects one
million plus to attend the event, while more
will be watching on television.
The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad
(ICE), Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo
(Recope), Coca Cola, the Instituto
Costarricense de Turismo (ICT), Wal-mart,
Florida Bebidas, Banco de Costa Rica and the
Municipalidad de San José, are the eight
companies that will be offering the public
spectacular floats and responsible for
illuminating the streets along the parade
route.
As usual, the floats will be judged. In
2008, the ICT took first prize, with Wal-mart
coming in second and the Gallito float
third.
In addition to the floats, taking part in
the parade are 12 student bands from all
over the country and 12 groups of
cheerleaders that will entertain spectators
between floats.
The Light Festival parade starts at dusk -
around 6pm - and will end at the Plaza de la
Democracia by 10pm.
