Guatemalan Police Seize Thousands of
Pseudoephedrine Tablets
GUATEMALA – Drug enforcement agents seized
475,000 tablets of pseudoephedrine – the key
ingredient in methamphetamine – at a
warehouse Tuesday near Guatemala City’s La
Aurora International Airport, police said.
The pseudoephedrine was found at a warehouse
belonging to Combex Inc., which is in the
export business, following a check of the
contents of 20 cardboard boxes, the National
Civilian Police, or PNC, said in a brief
statement.
No arrests have been made and neither the
origin nor destination of the
pseudoephedrine has been determined, the PNC
said.
Police seized 500,000 pseudoephedrine
tablets Nov. 2 at La Aurora.
The pseudoephedrine, whose importation and
sale has been banned in Guatemala since
February, had arrived on a flight from
Asuncion, Paraguay.
No arrests were made in that operation
either, police said.
So far this year, the security forces have
seized $14.2 million worth of
pseudoephedrine.
Pseudoephedrine, an ingredient in cold
medications, is used to make ecstasy and
other synthetic drugs. EFE
